Google Australia's new look

If you've recently went to Google to do a search, you would probably have noticed that its look and feel have changed. The new interface's "metamorphosis" is a response to the increasing richness of the web and the increasing power of search.

So what's new and what's changed on Google Australia?

Apart from the more visually appealing main page, keen eyes would've noticed that the option to search for "Pages in Australia" has been removed. This option is now only available on the search results page, after clicking on the "Google Search" button which adds a somewhat annoying extra step and time when one is searching for Australian websites, businesses and services.

The search results page now have a left-hand navigation panel. Within this panel you'll find some very useful tools to refine and filter the results of your search. This includes the ability to quickly filter your results by type (books, images, news, etc.), related searches, and time.

If you'd like to find out more about Google's reasoning for this update, Bloomberg Businessweek has published an in-depth article.
