Disadvantages of using Flash

Flash can produce eye-catching, professional and cool interactive layouts. Visitors are drawn in by the appealing look, animation, colors, and sounds that Flash can easily produce. However, there are disadvantages. Read on if you want to more about the down side of using Flash in your website.
  • Flash sites can mean the loss of some of your web browser’s key features. These include highlighting text for copy and paste, increasing the font size, and allowing for users to open links in new windows.
  • In comparison with typical website design, Flash design requires more experience, skill and training. Because of this, developers who create Flash designs usually charge a higher rate and can often take longer.
  • When using flash, you cannot use the "forward" or "back" buttons in your browser to get between pages.
  • Some web users do not have the software required to view Flash. If they do not have the Flash Player, then they will not be able to see any part of a Flash website.
  • A lot of Flash websites cannot be viewed by mobile users.
  • Flash sites perform poorly in search engines compared with sites created with HTML. Until recently, search engines could not read Flash sites but even though some now can, they cannot read them as easily as HTML.
  • Using flash can mean a long load time for your website as Flash files are larger than that of typical websites. Audio, fonts, and duplication can increase the size of flash files. The larger a file is, the longer it takes for a page to load.
  • Most Flash sites are less accessible to disabled users than their HTML-based counterparts.
