Writing Website Content

If you are having trouble getting your website content looking right, try out these tips:

Scannability

Why is it important?
People who browse the Internet often don’t read entire articles; they are more likely to scan through them to try to gauge the main points.
By making your content easy to scan, this will encourage your readers to view your web pages, rather then scaring them off with long pages of boring text.

What to do
Use headlines to highlight the key benefit of each page
Use bullet points, tables and sub-headings liberally
Use bold text to highlight key information
Break information into easy-to-read chunks
Cover one idea per paragraph
Break up text with images where possible
Keep formatting consistent between webpages

Language

Why is it important?
Your website is an important part of the marketing strategy for your business. If the articles on your website don’t make sense or are not easy to read, this could reflect badly on your company.
By taking care when writing content for the web, you will assure that you maintain a professional image to your existing and potential customers and clients.

What to do
Use plain English and avoid the use of jargon
Use the active voice rather than the passive (eg: "Request more information now." rather than "More information can be obtained by clicking here."
Ensure accuracy - bad grammar can discredit your brand and message
