Creating Link Bait

What is SEO Link Baiting?

Link Baiting is a technique used to attract visitors to link to your website.

One of the major factors to improving your website’s Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is to have good content and lots of good inbound links. You or your SEO consultant could spend many hours researching and requesting good sites to link to your website. This is a very time consuming process.

How do I create Link Bait?

An ideal way to get customers to link to your website is to create Link Bait. This is done by ensuring your website has interesting content that other websites want to link to. This content may hook other websites into spreading the word about your product or service.

For Example

One of our clients has a fantastic web page listing Inspirational Articles and another page listing Inspirational Quotes. These types of pages are very attractive to other websites, as they are not selling anything and are interesting to read. Other websites may want to create a link to these pages.

If you can do something similar that is related to your product or service – add the details to your website and see who wants to link to it.

Another example is that a lawn or turf supplier could publish somewhere on their website, a list of 10 tips for keeping your lawn beautiful or maybe a page with photos of some unusual gardens. Websites with similar products may want to link to these pages so that their visitors can learn more or just because they found it amusing. Your competitors may even want to link to you!

Suggested Formats

Here is a list of suggested formats you could use for link baiting: -

Jokes or Funny stories
Interesting Photos
Interesting Articles related to your website
Tips relevant to your industry or service
Online Tools related to your website eg mortgage calculator, currency converter

Go on – throw out your line and get some link bait on your website!
