Keywords Analysis

This is a very important part of SEO. You need to work out a list of keywords or keyword phrases that are relevant to your website AND that people will search for. There’s no point in selecting keywords that YOU think are relevant but that the general public would never search for. You will find a number or SEO Keyword Research Tools online that will help you with this task. It is important to get this part right as the rest of the SEO process relies on your selected keywords.

Optimise Content and Meta Tags

Once you have selected your keywords then it’s time to apply them to your website. This means updating your website so that these keywords or keyword phrases appear regularly and in the right places. Breakdown your list of keywords and decide which web page should be optimised for each keyword. Then for each of these web pages, add the keywords to the content, content titles and also to the Meta Tags (using the correct keywords when creating the title tag on a page is of extreme importance). You may need your Webmaster to help with this part of the SEO process.

Incoming Links

Search engines count links to web sites as “votes” for that site. No site is an island on the web and if it is, the search engine assumes it is not important, and places it accordingly. Therefore, the next stage of SEO is to gain inbound links to your site. You could do this by requesting customers or business partners that have websites to add a link to your website on theirs. The most important thing to remember when requesting links from other websites is that the Anchor Text should include some of your keywords. Text links work best. Links from banners or images are typically counted as advertisements and Google and many other top search engines can choose to ignore them. You may also need your Webmaster to help with this part of the SEO process.

Articles

Another great way to gain links to your website is to write articles that are relevant to your business and have them published online. The article must have a link to your website somewhere in the content or as part of the signature eg ‘This article was written by Joe Bloggs, Company Name’ with Company Name being a link to your website.

Keep Up To Date

Another important part of SEO is to ensure that you keep updating your website with fresh new and relevant content. This can be time consuming but, as it is highly regarded by the search engines, you will find that the effort will be worth it when you see your rankings improve over time.

Another thing to remember that may help your SEO process is to get online and keep up to date with what’s happening with the Search Engines. Quite regularly Google or any of the Search Engines will change their algorithm or requirements and you may have to adjust what your SEO process is to keep in line with these changes.
