If you have not yet created your Facebook Business Page, now might be a good time to do so. We recommend you at least set up a simple page to claim your company name before someone else does. Facebook has over 100 million users and the Business Pages are indexed and searchable inside and outside of Facebook. Therefore this increases the chances of more people finding your business online.

Once you’ve created your Facebook business page, now you need to know what to do with it.

Maintain your Business Page

To keep fans coming back to your business page, it is important to add fresh content. Facebooks pages are easy to maintain and you can create your own content or import feeds from other sites you are active on, such as your WordPress blog, or YouTube.  Another recommendation is instead of focusing on your product or services, ensure your customers can find fresh useful information and therefore they’ll revisit regularly.

Promote your Facebook business page

Let all your business colleagues and contacts know that your Facebook page exists. Mention it in your newsletter or email everyone on your email lists. The more people in your network who find out about your page, the more friends you can make, and the larger your network becomes. When people become a fan of your Business page, you have the ability to send updates to their Facebook inbox, giving you the option for direct marketing such as letting them know about special offers etc. We also suggest that you use the "share" button on the bottom right to send your Business Page Details directly to your contacts within facebook.

Start conversations and Make friends

Every Facebook page has a News Feed section where actions of each user are chronicled. Whenever someone interacts with your page, that action is listed in their News Feed and on their friends’ feeds. More actions mean more chances to expand your fan base.

Start Facebook groups related to your business

Create groups to allow Facebook friends and customers to discuss topics related to your business or services. An example may be for a Catering Company to start a group for Wine Lovers. Group moderators can send messages and updates to group members, spreading information quickly across your network.

Use Facebook advertising

Facebook offers a few paid advertising options. Depending on the size of your advertising budget, businesses can invest in basic or advanced advertising. Facebook Ads allow you to reach a targeted audience and bring them to your Facebook Page or external website. You can choose your audience by age, gender, geography and keywords.
Click on the 'Promote Page with an Ad' option. This will allow you to create an advertisement for your Business and include a link to your website. Read here to get extra tips on creating your ad. Once you have created your ad, the next step will be to select the target audience. You will be able to target your exact audience with demographic and psychographic filters about real people. The targeting page defaults to people age 18 and older in Australia, but we recommend that you modify this to reach the most appropriate people for your ad. Be sure to reference the bottom of the page for an estimate of the number of people who match your criteria. Finally, you will be prompted to Price your Ad. You can choose whether you want to pay for clicks or pay for views and choose the appropriate payment option. You can also select a maximum payment budget with the minimum budget being $5 a day.
